More Video!

Posted in Uncategorized on July 29, 2009 by deadofnightmovie

Yeah, still not the one most of you are probably looking for.

Shocked the heck out of me when I found this on youtube.  Done by TheMickee and not in any way connected or created by the production.  Wow, we have fans!

For those of you who will be there, the folks at our autograph signing will NOT now be signing anything but the Dead of Night mini-poster, which will be given out right there at the autograph signing.  Legal issues, it seems, sometimes supersedes the desires of very nice actors and directors.  Who knew?  So I’m afraid you’ll have to leave your inflatable Sams and Lego Brandons at home this time.  Sorry, guys, for any confusion.

Being too easy

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on July 21, 2009 by deadofnightmovie

I originally entitled this post “Being Too Talented” but the moment I typed it, I realized it sounded like the most egotistical thing ever and was really not what I meant.  I’m easy.  Don’t tell my wife, but I am.  Well, I guess she knows because she constantly tells me I’m too easy.  And not in a “slip a drink in my hand and I’m yours, big boy” kind of way.  In a “ask me to do something and I’ll do it, even if it means giving little things like sleep” kind of way.  In the past 72 hours, I’ve:

A) Spent most of the weekend working with the editor on the footage we’ll be preparing at Comic-Con.

B)  Arranged passes for actors from our movie that decided at the last minute to be on the panel.

C)  Coordinated interviews for Brandon and Sam and others at places like the SyFy Channel, La Repubblica, CBR, and others.

D)  Been asked to speak on another panel for a totally different project

E)What else?  Oh, yeah, there’s that whole development “day job” think where I’m trying to set up our next big movie.  That little thing.

It’s very crazy times.  Are there people who’s job it is to do most of this?  Sure, but they don’t know the project, the actors, or the convention crowds enough to know what’s going to work and who is important and how to navigate the politics of it all as well as I do.  Classic case of “If you want a job done right…”  Well, not even “right”, more “the best way it can be”.  Still, it would be nice to get some of that sleep stuff sometime soon.

The “official” release

Those of you following this blog know most of this already, but thought I would repost the more “official” announcement of it.  (I prefer to think of it as more “stiff” but that’s just me.  :-))

One new bit of info is the POSTERS they’ll be giving out there.  Who besides me wants the first Dead of Night poster?!!!

Comic-Con Clarification

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on July 15, 2009 by deadofnightmovie

Just to make it clear to everyone planning to come (and I hope there are thousands of you!):

The panel starts at 10am on Thursday July 23rd in Room 32AB.

The autograph session with Kevin, Brandon and some surprise others starts at 12 noon in the autograph hall.

There are no tickets for the autographs, but there is a full hour between the panel and the signing session, so there should be plenty of time to get upstairs and get a good place in line.  Knowing the guys that are signing, they’ll probably stay as long as the Con lets them, as they love fans.  So there shouldn’t be any trouble everyone getting an autograph that wants one.

I’ll be there in the audience and will provide a full report here after it happens.  I’ll try to make it that night, in fact, but I’m not promising anything.  I just got to see the footage they’ll be showing today and it’s pretty freakin’ cool!!!

In case you missed it…

Here’s a press release that was issued yesterday.  Not much new stuff for most of you die-hard fans here.

Dead of Night Wraps Principal Photography

Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment Group and Platinum Studios Inc. (OTC.BB:PDOS – News) have announced that principal photography has wrapped in New Orleans, Louisiana, on their gothic thriller, “DEAD OF NIGHT.” The film, which is also a presentation of the Omnilab Media Group, is based on the world’s best-selling horror comic series, ‘Dylan Dog,’ created by Tiziano Sclavi and published by Italy’s Sergio Bonelli Editore. The comic book series has sold over 56 million units in 17 languages since its debut in 1986.

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) stars as reluctant paranormal investigator Dylan Dog, who finds himself in a “turf war” between and among the undead, and Sam Huntington who co-stars as Marcus, Dylan’s wise-cracking trusted assistant. Also co-starring are Taye Diggs (TV’s “Private Practice”) as Vargas, head of the Vampire family, Anita Briem (Journey to the Center of the Earth) as Elizabeth, another potential in the long line of Dylan conquests and Peter Stormare (Constantine), as Wolfgang, the head of the werewolf family.

The film is directed by Kevin Munroe, whose 2007 re-imagining of TMNT resurrected the billion dollar franchise and is written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly (Sahara and Conan the Barbarian).

“Dylan Dog is a character that brilliantly mixes charisma, affability, and hard-driven principles,” said Munroe. “I couldn’t be happier with Brandon’s portrayal — he meshed all of those aspects into a charming action hero, funny as he was ass-kicking. I can’t wait to share his work with the world.”

Platinum Studios chairman and CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, who brought the billion dollar “Men in Black” franchise to Sony, and Hyde Parks’ Amritraj are producing with Gilbert Adler (Valkyrie, Superman Returns and Constantine). Executive Producers include Omnilab Media’s Christopher Mapp, Matthew Street and David Whealy, Cinemarket’s Peter Graves, The Greenberg Group’s Randy Greenberg, who brought all of the parties together, Hyde Park’s Patrick Aiello, Kevin Munroe, Lars Sylvest and Film Production Capital LLC’s Will French and Stephen Roberts. Platinum Studios’ Brian Altounian and Rich Marincic are co-producing along with Hyde Park’s Manu Gargi.

Hyde Park and Platinum Studios completed the financing for the picture with Omnilab Media, and Hong Kong-based Standard Chartered Bank. Omnilab Media will play a key role in securing and/or overseeing North American distribution for the picture as it recently has for The Bank Job, W, and The Messenger.

Platinum Studios’ film and TV division is developing Cowboys & Aliens with producers Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer and DreamWorks, Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and Kurtzman/Orci (the writing team behind the “Transformers” franchise and the resurrected “Star Trek” franchise). In addition, Platinum is developing with “Harry Potter” producer David Heyman, Unique at Walt Disney Pictures, Witchblade with Wanted executive producer Marc Silvestri, Top Cow Productions, Inc. and Arclight Films, Atlantis Rising with DreamWorks, Kurtzman/Orci and director Len Wiseman (Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard), and an untitled project at Sony Pictures Animation.

Locations for Dead Of Night included the Saenger Theatre, Lafayette Cemetery, Canal Street in the French Quarter, the Buckner Mansion and Latter Memorial Library in the Garden District, the Beaux Mart, the Andry Street Wharf, Audubon Park and the Louisiana Film Studios.

The film is currently in post-production in Burbank, California with Academy Award-winning editor Paul Hirsch (Star Wars, Footloose, and Righteous Kill). Additional behind-the-scenes talent includes Cinematographer Geoff Hall (Dying Breed and Chopper) and three-time Academy Award-winning Makeup Effects House DRAC Studios (Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Bram Stokers’ Dracula and Mrs. Doubtfire).

News about Comicon

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on July 7, 2009 by deadofnightmovie

I’ve gotten scooped once again, but I thought I should post it here.  The Comic-Con news I mentioned earlier has now been announced.  Kevin, Brandon and some other surprise folks from the cast will be appearing at the San Diego International Comicon at 10am on Thursday July 23rd in Room 32AB.  They’ll be premiering footage from the movie that has never been seen before anywhere (not even by me!).  The panel, entitled “Masters of the Web” will be moderated by Kevin and will primarily feature a lot of the same journalists we had come visit the set in New Orleans, so hopefully they’ll spend some time talking about they’re experience on the set was like.  Get there early to get your seats, as it will be first come first serve and seating IS limited!

ah…the internet

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on July 1, 2009 by deadofnightmovie

For those of you who are familiar with me on twitter or Facebook, you may have noticed some recent posts I made there about the demise of the great Neil Diamond (http://www.facebook.com/dan.forcey).  It was done as a experiment in social media.  After a few posts on both sites, the rumor spread and eventually the search “Neil Diamond dead” wound up on Yahoo’s top searches for the day.  Somebody also changed the Wikipedia page on Mr. Diamond.  All of this prompted the real and very much alive Mr. Diamond to start twittering to prove he was still alive.  This all came from a few Facebook updates and twitter updates to my social circle, which is truly not that large.  Updates that had NO actual articles, interviews, or facts of any kind to back them up but were picked up and passed along. I did it because I’m personally fascinated with the disappearance of journalistic integrity.  Actually, honestly fascinated with the fact that you can post something ridiculous on the web and it is immediately accepted as fact.  It’s like the high school rumor mill has been pumped full of steroids and spread it’s ugly tendrils around the world.

But why is this important to a production blog on the upcoming movie “Dead of Night”?  Well, somebody this morning, with NO articles, interviews, or facts of any kind to back it up posted that Dead of Night was now going direct to DVD and it has spread around like wildfire.

To put a kibosh on this: there is no doubt that this movie will be a definite theatrical release.

Whomever started this had not spoken to anyone with the production or fact-checked this in any way before posting it.  Personally, I suspect Neil Diamond.  He’s got it out for me now.  I truly, honestly would like to apologize, Mr. Diamond.
